WEIGHT— 143 lbs [break]
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES— piercing red eyes. [break]
[break]
A tall beauty, Renma Yamikawa is nothing less than a wolf in sheep's clothing. At first glance, Renma doesn't seem capable of creating the terrifying illusions she does in battle—her face seems kind, and although her scarlet red eyes are reserved and cold, her smile is calm is comforting and she speaks to students with the utmost respect and understanding. Unfortunately, even past this, Renma is a woman of immense sadism that is only revealed when she is in the throes of battle. Her eyes grow dark, her face grows grim, and her smile is given a new, entirely separate meaning. Where her smile could have been comforting, her smile in combat is that of a spider having trapped a fly, a wolf having cornered a lamb, a starving lion in the Colosseum. Her smile gets across that she is the predator, and her victim is the prey.[break][break]
Nonetheless, Renma is certainly not an eyesore. Although she is aged, her skin is not loose and it only wrinkles around the corners of her eyes. Her hair is long, black, and perfectly trimmed, frequently looking glossy, and feeling like silk running over the skin. Perhaps even more striking are her crimson red eyes, dull when her quirk is inactive but emitting light when she activates her nightmares.[break][break]
Her hero costume consists of a black bodysuit and multiple utility belts and loops over her waist and thighs which hold various items of use and need—bandages, knives, everyday items she couldn't possibly leave the house without. She also wields a custom-built naginata, always polished and always sharpened.

[attr="class","hopelovetitle"]PERSONALITY
[attr="class","hopelovetop"]
What can be said about the big bad wolf?[break][break]
Perhaps fearless is the right word. Renma Yamikawa's time with her quirk has allowed her the insight she needed to truly overcome her fears. She has realized that to be afraid is to put her time and energy into a mental structure that never has any bearing on reality. Fear doesn't exist in the physical world, and Renma knows this well, which is why she weaponized her opponent's own brains against them. A woman who never backs away from a challenge, she stares danger in the face and laughs, knowing the worst that could happen is that she dies. She is not afraid of death anymore and her life has been enlightened, allowing her to walk with a confident aura and to smile to all of the young people enrolled in her school. Even despite her cold, unperturbed nature, Renma is prone to fits of kindness, and although she is afflicted by an intimidating appearance, she is rarely quite as mean and stern as she can make herself out to be. Although she floats through the hallways of Shin-U.A. as a ghost, students rarely ever realize quite how kind she is until she assists them in finding their classrooms or gives them incredible tips on better utilizing their powers.[break][break]
Alas, Renma hides a darker side to her that rarely anyone ever sees unless they are on the opposite side of her in battle. Manipulative and sadistic, she takes great joy in worming into the heads of others and learning exactly what makes them shiver with fear. Although Renma is struggling to abandon the darker parts of her personality, she cannot help the fact that sometimes she sees her companions merely as tools to reach an end and can treat them as such even as she admonishes herself for it. Although she has mostly removed every trace of her manipulative tongue from her daily life, it can still sometimes rear its ugly head and she can slip into moving her students like chess pieces in some strange, grand scheme. Her manipulation often lies in her intense curiosity—she wants to know everything about a person on their first interaction and will stop at nothing to learn every fear and phobia they have. She wants to know what makes them tick, what makes them shiver, what makes them keen, and although she does not necessarily see this as the worst personality trait, she has been told it is terrible to do to those closest to her and has been steadily working on fixing this part of her. A wolf trying to become more like a lamb, Renma sometimes struggles to hide her teeth and can end up scarier than she already makes herself out to be.[break][break]
Even then Renma despises herself and despises the dark side within her. It has caused only problems for her and she is still growing and trying to understand the parts of her she would rather hide away.

[attr="class","hopelovetitle"]BIOGRAPHY
[attr="class","hopelovetop"]
From a young age, Renma Yamikawa was scared of the dark. She would wake up terrified in the night and see shadows crawling up the wall, then barricade herself beneath her blankets and desperately call out for her mother and father. Although doting and kind, both parents could not truly understand her fear. They thought she was being a silly child and that she would grow out of it eventually...But she never did. When her phobia became too much to handle and began racking up the electricity bill due to her obsession with the light, her parents finally took her into a counseling session. That counselor suggested her to another, who suggested her to another until Renma and her parents were finally sitting in front of a quirk counselor. It was then that both Renma and her parents learned that the darkness she saw coagulating at night was merely a product of her own quirk and she had manifested it early. Her quirk was named Nightmare—the ability to create nightmarish illusions in the heads of anyone she made eye contact with, even herself. Renma's father, being the principal of Shin-U.A., had quite the experience with unpredictable quirks and immediately suggested quirk counseling to help her.[break][break]
Renma went home in shambles. They had found the problem, but they had not found the solution. Her own brain was tormenting her and she didn't know how to stop it herself. She was shunted into quirk counseling as soon as she was old enough to be admitted, and although she learned to control the nightmares she inflicted on other people, she could never control the nightmares that tormented her every waking moment. She began losing sleep, began growing farther and farther away from those who loved her until she met another child in primary school who quickly became friends with her. Ophelia was a sleepy girl from America who, even despite her lethargy, managed to keep up with Renma at recess and play with her when all of the other children shunned her out of fear of her quirk. One day, when Renma asked Ophelia why she wasn't scared of her, Ophelia responded with, "Why should I be afraid? They're only illusions, they can't actually hurt me."[break][break]
Ophelia's wise words struck Renma to the core. She was right—the nightmares she created for herself weren't real at all, merely figments of her imagination that had taken on a malicious streak. When Renma went down for sleep that night, she slept peacefully and soundlessly for the first time in a year. When Renma returned to school the next day, she thanked Ophelia for her help and made a promise to be friends forever. From that point on, Renma and Ophelia were inseparable, partners in crime who never spent time apart even outside of classes. Where Renma went wrong, however, is when she realized that not everyone thought like she and Ophelia did. Not everyone had conquered their fear, and fear could always be abused and manipulated. Renma realized she could get anything she wanted as long as she made eye contact and allowed their worst fears to come to life. With this began Renma's jaunt through life—she manipulated students, teachers, and adults into becoming her own servants purely by their own fears, giving them the fright of their life and then molding them to her desire when the fear and adrenaline had surged through them. There was nothing she couldn't do without fear.[break][break]
Unfortunately, Renma found herself too set in her ways. Although she had resolved to never induce fear in any of those she truly cared about, she began slipping in her ideals until she tried to test her manipulation on Ophelia, her only friend. Ophelia, having already conquered her fear, was unphased but incredibly angry, betrayed, and hurt. She accused Renma of only being friends with her because she had something she wanted, and while Renma denied this, she couldn't help but wonder if she cared about anyone around her at all. She had been going through life caring only about herself, and when one person dared to stand up to her, Renma couldn't help but feel guilt swell inside of her. She tried to apologize and explain herself to Ophelia, but Ophelia was irate and steadfast. She would not forgive Renma. Ophelia left school in a fuss and never came back. Renma kept trying to make up excuses for why Ophelia wasn't in school, but none of them were convincing—there was no running from the fact that Renma had ruined the only genuine friendship she ever had.[break][break]
Renma, at that point, became determined to redeem herself and prove that she wasn't a bad person even if her schemes had turned everyone she loved away from her. At her father's urging, Renma enrolled in Shin-U.A. High School and passed the entrance exam to finally begin her redemption journey. She made a pact with herself—she would never use her quirk to manipulate ever again, only as a boon in battle. Although she had a few slip-ups here or there, Renma stayed true to herself and her need to prove herself as better than she had been acting. When Renma finally graduated from Shin-U.A., she was excited to begin her hero career and began an internship at a local hero agency under a Pro-Hero she looked up to immensely. There she interned with a boy named Tadashi Yamane, also known as 'Starlight'. With his quirk involving light, Tadashi acted as a light to Renma's intense darkness. Although they clashed due to their strong personalities, their internship ended with the two of them becoming partners and entering hero society as professional heroes together. Love bloomed between them and they made a stark agreeance to marry quietly so they could never be separated if any of them died. They married with only a priest as a witness and placed their rings on their hero costumes. For a while, it looked as if they were inseparable. Then Renma's illusions came out to play once more.[break][break]
They had a fight one night. It was over something stupid as most married fights are, but Renma didn't want to do anything she would regret. She left their shared apartment in a fuss and began a torrid walk through the disgusting, slimy streets of Neo-Tokyo. There, in the dead of night, Renma encountered a greasy set of men who recognized her face—yes, the Pro-Hero 'Phobia', walking around the slums as if she cared about the people beneath her. They wanted to knock her down a peg, and they wouldn't leave unless she was bloodied and bruised. Renma was prepared to fight but she was severely outnumbered. She did the best she could to defend herself and was even beginning to win the fight until she got taken by surprise with a knife to her neck from behind. A man held the serrated blade to her neck and pressed harder when he saw Tadashi appear in the alleyway. He had come looking for her and seeing a common street thug hold a knife to his wife's neck ignited a flame inside of him. Tadashi rushed the thugs and together the two of them expelled the thugs from the alleyway, but not without a price. Renma lifted up Tadashi's shirt to find he had been stabbed in the abdomen and was bleeding out.[break][break]
Renma rushed Tadashi to the hospital with dread growing in her stomach and waited for him to wake up in his bed for days. She didn't sleep or eat, guilt rising deep within her. It ate at her skin and festered like a disease until it became too terrible to bear. She had become a Pro-Hero to protect the people she loved and prove she was a better person, but she had endangered the only person who had accepted her for her flaws and loved her for them. He nearly died because of her. Unsure she could even look him in the eyes, Renma drafted a letter before he woke up. She told him that she hated herself for what happened, she would love him forever, and that she wanted to become a better person for him. She wanted to build herself into someone that would finally be worthy of his love—unconditional just as the sun. She kissed his wedding ring and left him in the hospital, her stomach swirling with self-loathing.[break][break]
Renma returned to her aging father, the principal of Shin-U.A. High School but rapidly approaching retirement. She beseeched him, confessing all of her sins and asking for advice—what could she possibly do to become better? What could she do to become good enough for Tadashi? Her father placed his hand on her shoulder and lifted her head, then offered her the job of becoming principal for Shin-U.A. as his successor, hand-picked and vetted for her skill. She questioned how this would make her better, and her father responded that she would be directly influencing the newest generation of heroes, training and molding them into full adults she wished she could be. There would truly be nothing more humbling. Renma, although wary, accepted the job, and was fully inducted into the school under the tutelage of her father, slowly molding into a leader worthy of such a prestigious school. Things were finally looking up—here was where Renma could be better. Shin-U.A. was where she could finally finish her redemption arc.

[break]
Renma can breathe out and excrete pheromones customized to her victim's mentality at will. Inhaling these pheromones afflicts Renma's victim with visions and hallucinations of their greatest fear—while the pheromones are inherently customized to the victim based on Renma's own perception of them, the visions only grow stronger and more terrifying based on how much Renma knows about the other person. To the victim, the visions seem incredibly real and are layered on top of the real world like virtual reality, but openly interact with the victim's surroundings and can actively speak to the victim. To determine whether these visions are real or fake, the victim must ponder it extensively—the visions can easily be told from the real world if Renma doesn't intricately understand the victim's mindset, but they become incredibly realistic if Renma is intimately aware of the victim's headspace. In order to actually see these terrifying visions, one must inhale the pheromones, and it takes one post of downtime before the victim finally starts seeing the visions. While these pheromones used to smell of maple sugar, they have since evolved to be completely odorless and can only be detected by animalistic senses the average human does not possess. The only other clue that Renma may be breathing out pheromones is by her mouth being open and actively exhaling, but in the heat of a battle this sign can easily be missed.[break][break]
When the illusions are active, they take on a mind of their own and do anything they can to torment and torture the victim mentally. While they do not physically affect the victim, these mirages are inherently malicious and are not afraid of breaking the victim's mind. In the case of a large group inhaling the pheromones, the illusions inherently grow weaker to affect a greater number of people, and the more people that are affected by the pheromone cloud, the weaker the pheromones themselves are. To those that are outside of the pheromone cloud that has not inhaled them, they are completely unaware of the illusions unless they spot the victim's actions under the effects of the illusions. If a group is under the effects of the illusions, they see the greatest fear of the person that Renma was trying to target and not their own fear.[break][break]
The pheromones extend from Renma's body to 30 meters within the first post and then expand further by 10 meters per post up to a maximum of 60 meters. The pheromones can persist in a victim's body for 5 posts before fading, although the illusions fade gradually and can still pop up even after the victim is not under their active effects.[break][break]
[break]
WEAKNESSES— Renma is not immune to her own pheromones, and when breathing out pheromones she can breathe them in again and begin seeing the very nightmares he victims do. While these do not disturb her to the point of remarkable fear, they can get incredibly distracting and can hurt her concentration in battle.[break][break]
Not only this but when inhaling her own hormones, they act as a hallucinogen to her which can cause even worse effects than those inflicted on her victims if she inhales too much. Using her quirk more than five times in a thread can lead to an experience that can resemble the effects of a bad trip on LSD. Physically, she can be afflicted by numbness, nausea, tremors, hyperreflexia, hypothermia, and a heart-rate increase, but mentally she can be terrorized by irrational fears and anxiety, panic attacks, paranoia, rapid mood swings, hopelessness, and intrusive thoughts of harming others. Inhaling even more pheromones can lead to potentially fatal side-effects such as slipping into a coma, vomiting, gastric bleeding, and respiratory problems. Renma has developed some kind of tolerance to her own pheromones over the years, but she still has her limits and is cautious when using her quirk. At the moment she is commissioning a support tech manufacturer for a mask that filters out her own pheromones when she breathes.[break][break]
Perhaps the biggest drawback that Renma has is that her quirk operates on the idea that her victims readily breathe in the pheromones. Any person that does not breathe air in the same way that humans do, holds their breath as her pheromones pass over them, or otherwise filtrates the pheromones out, they will not be affected at all.

TIER— A[break]
[break]
A fighting style making the most of the ancient martial art known as naginatajutsu, Renma utilizes her custom naginata to slash into her enemies in battle without getting too close herself. Relying on distance, Renma has also allowed that distance to detatch her from battle while also making her a force not to be trifled with. Truly a rolling storm when combat is concerned, Renma is lightning fast in her slashes and precise as ever, and while she doesn't necessarily need to use her quirk to take someone down in combat, she does enjoy seeing the fear grow in their eyes as she digs her glaive in.[break][break]
Renma has grown used to the more advanced maneuvers in the art and will never shy away from a grapple or close-up tussle even if she does like to keep her enemies at a distance. She is not to be underestimated, even by coworkers and fellow heroes, and is on par with some of the best naginatajutsu practitioners in Japan, though she still couldn't be considered number one.

In combat, this allows Renma exceptional mobility and experience in the most frequent fighting environments.[break][break]

To get into one's mind and make their nightmares even worse than what they imagined, Renma needs a good handle on psychology. A master manipulator and fresh-faced lie detector, Renma is well trained in the art of watching for the briefest twitches in a person's face to get key insights on their headspace. She is capable of making accurate predictions on their fears, and even when she is wrong about their phobias, she is still adept at getting under someone's skin. She merely needs more practice.[break][break]
